We offer Golden Charter pre-paid funeral plans from one of the UK’s leading funeral plan supplies, they lock future costs, at today’s prices. To ensure peace of mind, we tailor the plans to your individual needs, we offer plans that are flexible so you can choose to pay in either one lump sum or manageable monthly instalments.
Funeral Plan Benefits;
Yes. Our plans are available to everyone regardless of age or state of health. If you choose to pay by Low Cost Instalments, then you must be 78 or under when you apply. If you choose fixed monthly payments, then you must be a UK resident aged between 50 and 80. There are no maximum or minimum age limits if paying by single payment or payment over 12 months.
You’ll receive a membership pack, which includes a summary of your plan and plan certificates – one for you and one to give to your next of kin. You’ll also receive a personal membership card.
If you intend to travel overseas, we recommend that your travel or medical insurance policy includes cover for repatriation costs back to the UK. Your funeral plan covers the cost of transportation of the body from the relevant UK airport or port to our premises.
This will depend on the type of payment method you have chosen. Please refer to the separate Payment Information and Key Features documents for more information.
Yes, if your plan is paid in full and a spouse or other family member dies before you, the plan can be transferred to cover their funeral costs. This option is not available if you pay fixed monthly payments.
Extra costs may incur if the funeral arrangements differ from what’s specified in the plan, for example burial instead of cremation, an additional vehicle or different location.
Please let us know you are moving so we can update our records. You will have the option to move your plan to a different funeral director, if required.
Yes, just complete the plan holder’s representative section on the application form, and we’ll arrange for all correspondence to be sent to you. If paying by fixed monthly payments, please note the plan holder will be contacted directly by the life assurance company which provides this payment option.
For all payment methods, if you cancel within 30 days Golden Charter will refund the payment you have made. For details of cancellation terms after 30 days please refer to the Payment Information and Key Features documents.
You can tell us about any special wishes for your funeral when you apply, alternatively you can fill in a ‘My Wishes Known’ form, which is downloadable here.
If these involve extra costs, you may be able to add these on to the total cost of your plan (except where you choose to pay by fixed monthly payments).

Golden Charter is 100% owned by independent funeral directors, so plan holders can be reassured that their funds are safe. Depending on how the plan is paid for, funds are either paid into the Golden Charter Trust or to a life assurance policy.
Depending on how you have chosen to pay for your funeral plan, your monies will be paid directly into The Golden Charter Trust or your payments will buy a life assurance contract with Phoenix Life Limited. The Trust is a fund whose assets are entirely separate and independent of Golden Charter. If Golden Charter were to go out of business the money you have paid will be protected until it is required to pay your selected funeral director who has guaranteed to carry out the services of your funeral plan.
If you have chosen to pay by fixed monthly payments, then your monies will be used to buy a life assurance policy with Phoenix Life Limited which is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
